An Fei

Ann Fairchild is an English lady who paints under her Chinese name An Fei. Born in rural Suffolk, she showed an early talent for painting the local landscape, twice winning the Constable-Reeve prize for painting while at school. She moved to Kent to attend Canterbury College of Art from which she graduated in 1985 with a B.A. Hons degree in Fine Art. She then went on to receive a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Canterbury Christ Church College in 1995.

Ann has made Chinese brush painting her speciality after discovering that the sensuous and responsive nature of traditional Chinese painting materials greatly facilitates her approach to painting. She also realised that it’s philosophy, founded in close observation of nature, is close to her own personal ethos. Her work has been featured in many group exhibitions. She also teaches Chinese brush painting techniques and held an open workshop on Chinese painting and Calligraphy as part of the Canterbury Festival. She is Chairman of The London Chinese Brush Painters Group and a member of The Chinese Brush Painters Society.
